Calls To Action And Good News

We have all been deeply affected by the latest gun violence tragedies– Buffalo, Uvalde, Texas, and so many others. I am at a loss for words.

BUT,  I want you to hear from a fantastic colleague who has created a piece that says what I am unable to say. Jinho Fererria is a writer, rapper, actor and former policeman from Oakland, California. 
Jinho is available to teach and perform in person and remotely. 
PLEASE watch this short video that he is dedicating to the children who lost their lives this week: Voice of the Innocent.

After receiving a mini-grant from Oakland’s Department of Violence Prevention, Vision Quilt and SAVE Center for Community Change and Development are standing at homicide sites once a month with Vision Quilt yard signs. Your community can do this too! Contact us!

​This fall, the East Oakland Youth Development Center will be offering courses to their youth based on our tool kit: “Addressing Gun Violence: Creating Visionaries, Storytellers and Community Activists”. We are grateful to EOYDC’s new leadership, Selena Wilson, Landon Hill and Sharon Barnes, for our new partnership. Vision Quilt in Oakland could not be in better hands!

Our Oakland hero, Steph Curry and his wife, Ayesha are creating 150 neighborhood libraries in Oakland and filling them with 50,000 books over the next three years.
